New Report: Israel Committing Genocide in Gaza
Human Rights Watch report concludes as did Amnesty a few week ago!
Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused Israel of committing genocide and extermination in Gaza. In a recent report, the US-based organisation states that Israel has deliberately created conditions to destroy Gaza’s Palestinian population, which are crimes against humanity.
The report follows Amnesty International’s similar conclusion two weeks earlier and reflects growing international concern about Israel’s actions in Gaza. I’ve also written about the report from Airwars, Patterns of harm analysis, the database over Israeli war crimes by scholar Lee Mordechai and respected holocaust scholars like Amos Goldberg. They all point towards the same conclusion, Israel is committing genocide. Everyone who does not speak out, is complicit!
Key Findings in the 191 page report:
Water Deprivation: HRW found that Israel has deliberately deprived Gaza’s residents of safe water since October 2023. This has caused “thousands of deaths” from dehydration and disease.
Targeted Policies: Israel cut off water supplies, destroyed infrastructure, and blocked aid. HRW says these actions amount to genocide.
Incitement: Statements from Israeli officials calling for cutting water are described as incitement to genocide.
Tirana Hassan, HRW’s Executive Director, says:
“This is a deliberate policy causing thousands of deaths – it is an act of genocide.”
The report is based on interviews, satellite images, and expert data. It highlights the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 45,000 people have also been killed by Israeli forces since October 2023.
Global Response
In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes. The United Nations and South Africa have also accused Israel of actions that could amount to genocide.
HRW’s report adds to mounting evidence of deliberate policies causing immense suffering in Gaza.
