Culture Break: Book Launch, “Good Night Gaza”
A Collection Of Childrens Stories – A Glimpse Into Gaza’s Culture
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the launch of God natt Gaza (Goodnight Gaza), a deeply moving book event organised by Plan International Norge, the Norwegian chapter of Plan International.
The book Goodnight Gaza is a collection of beloved children’s stories, shared by parents in Gaza with their children. These charming tales of love, imagination, and family life stand in stark contrast to the devastating reality we often hear about from Gaza—stories of torture, civilian massacres, and gross human rights violations.
The book is beautifully bound and printed in both Norwegian and Arabic, providing a powerful glimpse into the ordinary joys of life in Gaza, even as the region faces unimaginable hhip.
While tlobal headlines are often filled with tragic reports of violence and destruction, this book serves as a powerful reminder of the everyday humanity that continues to endure in Gaza. The event itself was a moment of reflection, offering hope amidst the ongoing crisis and a chance to honour Gaza’s rich cultural heritage—one that is tragically being devastated by bombings.
It's easy to reduce regions like Gaza to headlines or political narratives, but Goodnight Gaza challenges us to remember that Gaza is, and has always been, so much more than the conflict it endures. It’s a land of beauty, tradition, and resilience—qualities we must not forget in the face of the horrors being inflicted upon it.
As we approach the holiday season, I hope Goodnight Gaza finds its way under many Christmas trees this year, offering readers a chance to experience Gaza’s culture through the eyes of those who live it. The book can be purchased here.
